I have a brand new great, granddaughter due in a few weeks-Charlotte Ann. A few weeks ago I received a photo of an infant sporting a crocheted mermaid outfit with the comment-"Isn't this cute" from Charlotte Ann's little mama. In other words-"I sure would like this for Charlotte Ann".
I get these "hints" quite often from one or another of my girls and while working on the mermaid [of course I went on an instant search for a pattern-which I purchased from a fellow independent designer on Craftsy.com] the idea to create a mermaid sewing pattern came to mind. Ye old sketch pad and pencils came out as soon as the crocheted mermaid was done.
Getting on task and staying there has become a problem but Charlotte Ann's Newborn Mermaid Pattern was finally finished yesterday along with accompanying video tutorials edited and uploaded onto YouTube.
Once the pattern was drafted, three different versions were made to see how they would look and how quick and easy they were.
I went shopping in my stash and came up with these:
thought this one could have the look of fish scales for a classy mermaid-have kept this fabric squirreled away for years using snippets here and there-would love to find it again
a purple lame
this beautiful sea looking piece
a metallic mottled gold one that might coordinate with all the pieces
AND
here is what they became
This prairie point version is the most involved using the continuous prairie point technique in my video tutorial @ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25fnkU7L2qc
the lame is in the quilted version
and, of course, every self respecting mermaid needs matching headbands and top
headbands can be worn around baby's chest also

So, Charlotte Ann's mermaid outfits are waiting for her and we are waiting impatiently for her to make her appearance.
Have a great and blessed crafting day
